I'm a storyteller in the New York area who is a regular on NPR's "This American Life" and at shows around the city. Moved to New York in 2006 and am working on selling a memoir of my years as a greeting card writer, and (as a personal, noncommercial obsession) a nonfiction book called "How to Love God Without Being a Jerk." My agent is Adam Chromy at Artists and Artisans. If you came here after hearing about my book on "This American Life" and Googling my name, the "How to Love God" book itself isn't in print yet, and may not even see print in its current form (I'm focusing on humorous memoir), but here's a sample I've posted in case you're curious anyway: Sample How To Love God Introduction, Pt. 1 of 3. Or just look through the archives for September 18, 2007.) The book you should be expecting is the greeting card book, about which more information is pending. Keep checking back!

This American Life Update

It turns out I'm appearing this week, in the episode "Social Engineering." Gee, that was fast.

Also, I'm on the last chapter or so of the book, so I'll soon be free to blog more frequently again.

I don't think, however, I'll be getting my money in time to make it to the National Puzzlers League Convention, alas. Expect to see me at the American Crossword Puzzle Tournament instead.

I really enjoyed your feature on this week's TAL. I especially enjoyed the application about grace, which I plan to share with a class I'm in at my church. Since I've been listening to your TAL contributions, I've come to identify with your journey, although I perhaps have ended up a few years down the road from you. I too come from a fairly conservative Christian background, but I admit that I take some comfort in the questioning and rejection of some of that early indoctrination. I am still a person of faith, but it is a much more critical, even skeptical, and humanizing faith. I look forward to reading the excerpt from your "How to Love God" book. Good luck with all of your efforts.
